What is Genital Wart Treatment?

It is a sexually transmitted infection that occurs in the genital area and occurs due to human papillomavirus (HPV). It is seen in 1-2% of people between the ages of 15-49. There are more than 100 types of HPV, and about half of them can cause genital warts. The incubation period of the disease can be weeks or years.

What are the Symptoms of Genital Wart?

It starts as a small, skin-colored, red or brown swelling that is more common around the anus (anus) and on the small lips in the genital area in women, due to the warm and moist areas located in the genital areas of women and men. It may also appear whitish in an area that is too humid. It grows larger and takes on a cauliflower-like appearance.

 

How Are Genital Warts Transmitted?

It is a sexually transmitted disease, but since the transmission is almost always by skin contact, it can be transmitted without full sexual intercourse. If there are conditions such as eczema, prolonged vaginal discharge around the genital area or anus, the disease is more easily transmitted.

How is the diagnosis made?

The diagnosis of genital warts is usually made by dermatologists with a clinical examination. Sometimes a skin biopsy may be required for differential diagnosis.

How is it treated?

There are treatment options for the disease that the patient will apply at home or the doctor will apply in the clinic. These treatments can be long-term. The choice of treatment depends on the location, number, size, etc. of the warts. depending on the features.

Vaccine to Prevent Genital Warts:

Protect Yourself and Your Partner

  • It is recommended that 3 doses of HPV vaccine be administered to 11-12 year old girls.
  • All girls or women aged 13-26 who have not been vaccinated or have not completed their vaccination series should be vaccinated.
  • Patients infected with one strain of the virus may benefit from protection against the other virus types in the vaccine. Therefore, patients with genital warts should also be vaccinated.
  • If you have genital warts, report this to your partner as soon as possible and go to the doctor and have it evaluated.
  • If your partner is receiving treatment for genital warts, you should also see a doctor.
  • Avoid having sexual intercourse while you or your partner has symptoms.
  • If you have genital warts, you should also be tested for other sexually transmitted diseases. Inform your partners about this as well.
